Biography

Guy Renwick was educated at Stowe School before going to Christ´s College, Cambridge from where he graduated with a Master of Arts. Renwick, who served in the Royal Scots Guards, was a bobsleigh and skeleton racer and appeared in the 4-man bob at the 1964 and 1968 Winter Olympics, with a best finish of eighth in 1968, with Tony Nash, and the two Robins, Widdows and Dixon. Renwick also enjoyed success in the 2-man bob and finished sixth in the 1962 World Championships with Nash and the pair followed that by taking gold at that year´s Commonwealth Winter Games at Sankt Moritz.

At the 1963 Worlds, Renwick, Nash, and Dixon were three of the four members of the GB1 bob at Isgls, the same Innsbruck venue that staged the 1964 Olympics. The fourth member of the crew should have been David Lewis but, following an accident during practice a few days earlier, Lewis was removed from the scene on a stretcher and unable to compete. His place was taken by Andrew Hedges and the crew went on to finish fourth. Two years later, despite being one of the favourites for a 4-man medal, after Nash and Dixon had won the 2-man gold, the British quartet of Renwick, Nash, Dixon, and Widdows finished seventh. In 1966 Renwick and Nash won the 2-man bob at Commonwealth Winter Games at Sankt Moritz but failed to add the World title when the 4-man event was cancelled following an accident that saw West Germany´s Toni Pensperger lose his life.

A wealthy businessman, Renwick later enjoyed a successful career in powerboat racing. He was also secretary of the British Bobsleigh Association and for a hobby enjoyed game-bird shooting.
