Travis Dawkins was a shortstop who won a gold medal with the USA team at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He also won a silver medal at the 1999 Pan American Games.
Dawkins was drafted in the second round of the 1997 Major League Baseball Draft by the Cincinnati Reds. He played in the major leagues from 1999-2003, with the Reds from 1999-2002 and then with the Kansas City Royals in 2003. He continued playing in the minor leagues through the 2010 season with the Tacoma Rainiers, Ottawa Lynx, and the Charlotte Knights.
Dawkins then became a coach in the Reds organization, initially as a hitting coach for the Goodyear Reds in the Arizona League. He eventually became a manager of the Greeneville Reds in rookie-league ball and then of the Single-A Dayton Dragons.
