Roy Oswalt

Roy Oswalt was a dominant right-handed pitcher for 13 years in Major League Baseball (MLB), but in 2000 he was still in the minor leagues with the Round Rock Express (Texas) and thus was able to play at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, helping the USA win a baseball gold medal.

Oswalt made his MLB début in May 2001 with the Houston Astros. He played with the Astros until 2010 and then was with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2010-11, before ending his career with single seasons with the Texas Rangers (2012) and Colorado Rockies (2013). On his retirement he signed a one-day contract with Houston on 5 April 2014 so he could officially retire as an Astro.

Oswalt ended his MLB career with a record of 163 wins and 102 losses and a career ERA of 3.36, with 1,852 strikeouts. Oswalt was an All-Star in 2005-07. He led the National League with 20 wins in 2004, led in ERA in 2006, and was MVP of the 2005 National League Championship Series. Oswalt was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 2019 and is also a member of the Houston Astros Hall of Fame and the Round Rock Express Hall of Fame.
