A physician, Martin Haudek was one of the first specialists in radiology in Austria, and eventually became head of the Röntgen Institute in Wien (Vienna). He was also in charge of all x-ray units during World War I. As a youth he practiced both football and, unusually for an Austrian, cricket. He played in goal for Wien FC, and later became secretary-general of the club. From 1918-29 Haudek was President of the Austrian General Association for Physical Sports, effectively the Austrian NOC. He helped raised funds for Austrian Olympic teams in 1924 and 1928. Combining his roles, Haudek wrote papers on the introduction of sports into school curricula to promote better health. He was co-opted onto the IOC in November 1924, resigning in 1928, after attending one of three IOC Sessions during his tenure.
