Co-opted to the IOC in 1984, Her Royal Highness, the Princess Nora of Liechtenstein was one of the early female members of the IOC. She studied at the Université de Genève and University Institute of Advanced International Studies, also in Genève. HRH Princess Nora later worked as a research assistant at the World Bank in Washington, DC in 1975-76, and then worked with the International Institute for Environment and Development in London from 1978-81, and with several different charitable, developmental aid, and Catholic Church organizations, beginning in 1981. She was Chief Scouting Guide of Liechtensteinische Pfadfinderinnenkorps Santa Maria from 1973-89, and later became an Honorary member of the Liechtenstein Scout association.
HRH Princess Nora was President of the Liechtenstein Olympic Committee from 1982-92 and was President of Special Olympics Liechtenstein, starting in 2002. After she became an IOC Member in 1984 she served on the Study and Evaluation Commission for the Preparation of the Olympic Games (1984-86) and the Olympic Programme Commission (1989-91). She is more fully properly known as Her Serene Highness Princess Norberta Elizabeth Mary Assumption Josefine Georgine et omnes sancti of Liechtenstein, Countess of Rietberg, Dowager Marchioness of Mariño.
