Willi Kaltschmitt

Willi Kaltschmitt studied international business administrations and human relations and later headed his own series of communications and public relations firms. For Guatemala he served as Ambassador to Cuba from 1998-2000 and became the Guatemalan Presidential Commissioner for Tourism in 2004.

Kaltschmitt played several sports, but most notably baseball, at which he reached the Guatemalan Major League level. He also became a boxing official, officiating at several Olympics and regional international tournaments. In administration Kaltschmitt served as President of the Guatemala National Olympic Committee from 1980-92, as President of the Central American Sports Organisation from 1982-90, and he became a Vice-President of the Pan-American Sports Organisation (PASO) in 1993.

Kaltschmitt became an IOC Member in 1988, and was named to the Executive Board in 2012. During his tenure he has served on the following IOC Commissions: New Sources of Financing (1989-95); Coordination for the Games of the XXVI Olympiad in 1996 in Atlanta (1991-96); Cultural (1996); Sport and Environment (1995-99); Press (appointed 2000); International Relations (appointed 2002) Coordination for the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro (appointed 2010); and as a Delegate Member for Protocol (appointed 2011). He stepped down as a full IOC Member in 2019 but was appointed as an Honorary Member.
