Lee Sang-Baek attended Waseda University where he captained the basketball team that won the Japanese National Championship in 1927-28. He was a founder of the Korean Olympic Committee and served as President from 1964-66. Lee was also a President of the Korean Amateur Athletic Association. He was a professor of sociology, was Custodian of the Museum at Seoul National University, and was President of the Korean Fine Arts Society. Lee published numerous works including a study of the origins of the Yi dynasty. He was co-opted onto the IOC in October 1964 but served a bit less than two years until his death in April 1966
