Biography

Lu Shengrong was a badminton player as a youth and moved into administration in that sport. She was named to the Council of the International Badminton Federation (IBF) in 1983 and was vice-president (1984-93) and deputy chair of the Council from 1990-93. In 1993 Lu was elected President of the IBF, the first woman from Asia to lead an international sports federation and the first Chinese to become a President of an international sporting organization. She stepped down as President in 2001.

Lu served on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from 1996-2001 in her role as President of the IBF. She served on the Women and Sports Working Group from 1996-2001. In 2005 Lu was named as Honorary Life Vice-President of the Badminton World Federation (successor to the IBF) and she was admitted to the Badminton Hall of Fame in 2006.
