Miguel Monck studied at Tulane University and became an architect and educator in Havana. Moenck played basketball and ran long sprints and middle distance, winning national titles in both the 400 and 800 metres. He was a pioneer of sports in his country, founding the Cuban AAU in 1913, serving as its secretary from 1920-39, and also founded the Cuban Olympic Committee in 1926. He was President of the Cuban NOC from 1926-30, and again in 1938-39. He also served as Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the 1930 Central American and Caribbean Games held in Havana. Moenck was co-opted onto the IOC in January 1938 and served until his death in 1969. He was a member of the Executive Board from 1953-59.
