Roque Muñoz was an IOC Member from 1983-2008 when he had to retire at age 80. He served as President of the Dominican Republic Olympic Committee from 1974-82. He was a former member of the national chess team in his native Dominican Republic, and later became known for promoting baseball, a very popular sport in his country, to be added to the Olympic Program. He also served in numerous posts as a sports administrator in Central American and Caribbean sports organizations, as well as the Pan-American Games organizing committee in 1999-2003. With the IOC Muñoz served on the Olympic Solidarity Commission from 1989-2001 and the Culture and Olympic Education Commission from 2002-08. His business career was as a civil engineer and he became chairman of his own company.
