Jean-Maurice Pescatore served in Parliament in Luxembourg and helped organize the 1910 IOC Session in Luxembourg, which led to his appointment to the IOC later that year. In 1922 he founded the Luxembourgeois Olympic Committee, serving as President from 1922-25. Pescatore owned a farm in Algeria and coffee plantations in Ethiopia, and was known for his explorations in Africa. He died aboard the SS Albertville off the coast of Senegal while returning from one of his expeditions in the Congo.
