Dadang Suprayogi studied at the Staff Command College of the Indonesian Army and then became a career military officer. He eventually rose to Lieutenant-General and was a member of the Supreme Advisory Council of Indonesia, and also entered politics, becoming a member of the People’s Congress. Suprayogi’s main sport interests were swimming and golf. He was President of the Indonesian Swimming Federation from 1952-84, and later served as Vice-President and President of the Indonesian Olympic Committee. Suprayogi also was Executive President of the National Sports Council beginning in 1971 and served as Vice-President of the Organizing Committee for the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta. Suprayogi became an IOC Member in 1977 and served until his resignation in 1989. He was then made an Honorary Member.
