Johann Sverre led the Norwegian delegation to the 1906, 1908 and 1912 Olympics. His contributions to sport in Norway were numerous, as he founded the Students’ Rowing Club, served as President of the Norwegian Gymnastics Federation (1911-14), and the Norwegian Olympic Committee (1914-16). He was co-opted onto the IOC in July 1908 and was a member until his resignation in April 1927. Sverre was a military man, rising to Lieutenant-Colonel and serving as aide-de-campe to Crown Prince Gustaf of Sweden.
