Shingoro Takaishi studied law at Keio University, and then joined the Mainichi Press in 1909. He worked initially as a foreign correspondent in several countries but eventually rose to become President of the Mainichi Group in 1945, a position which made him influential in the Japanese business world. Takaishi became an IOC Member in June 1939 and served until his death in February 1967. He was influential in obtaining host duties for Sapporo for the 1972 Winter Games, although poor health prevented him from attending the 1966 IOC Session at which Sapporo was selected as host.
