Prince Tsuneyoshi Takeda graduated from cavalry school and then served in the Imperial Army from 1928-45, reaching the rank of colonel. He became a Prince when he married Princess Mitsuko Sanjo, youngest daughter of Prince Kimiteru Sanjo, in 1934. After World War II Takeda attempted to go into business but his company went bankrupt. He then turned to sports administration, serving as President of the Japanese Skating Association from 1948, President of the Japanese Equestrian Federation, and he was President of the Japanese Olympic Committee from 1962-69. Takeda was co-opted onto the IOC in 1967, resigning in 1981. He served on the Executive Board from 1970-75, and his son, Tsunekazu Takeda, became an IOC Member in 2012.
