Reinhold, Baron von Willebrand served on the IOC from July 1908 thru April 1919. He was the founding President of the Finnish Olympic Committee, serving in that role from 1907-19, after which he was the director of Finland’s Swedish Central Sports Federation from 1921-27. He was also a gymnast and skater, and founded the Helsinki Skating Club in 1882, serving as its President until 1907. Von Willebrand’s appointment to the IOC angered the Russians who maintained that Finland, then part of Russia, did not deserve separate representation on the IOC.
