Hattie Donaldson, who lived in Huntsville, Ontario, was also a well-known skier, curler and golfer. She started competing in speed skating already as a junior. In 1936, she travelled with the Canadian Winter Olympic team to Europe and competed in several races all over Europe. This included taking part in the first official World Championships for women in Stockholm, where she finished 6th.
