Peter Däppen was a Swiss curler who enjoyed international success in the early 1990s. At the 1992 Albertville Olympics curling was played as a demonstration sport with Däppen named as an alternate in the Swiss squad for the Games. Switzerland finished second in their group, only losing to Norway, before causing an upset by beating Canada 8–4, who were the 1989-90 World Champions. In the final round Switzerland had their revenge against Norway, beating them 7–6 to win the event. Later that same year Däppen won bronze at the European Curling Championships in Perth, Scotland.
