Cathy Gentile competed in giant slalom for LW2 disability at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, placing second in the event. This is for athletes missing a lower limb above the knee. She lost her leg at the hip at age nine due to a bone tumor. Gentile, later Gentile-Petti, earned a marketing and finance degree from the University of Southern California. At the time of the Calgary Games she worked as a computer programmer and an administrative assistant at Redgat Memorial Hospital in Long Beach, California.
