Donald Weihs was a Texas native who served in the US Army and was recruited to the 38th Regimental Combat Unit. Weihs was a first lieutenant when he led the USA military ski patrol team at the 1948 St. Moritz Winter Olympics. Unfortunately, his ski broke during the race, and he had to trample the last six miles of the course on a broken ski.
