In addition to the standard ice hockey tournament at the 1932 Lake Placid Olympics there were five exhibition matches played as well. Gordon Crutchfield represented a team from McGill University, playing in the first and third matches against a Canadian team. McGill University won both matches with Crutchfield scoring a goal in the second fixture. He continued to represent the university team throughout the 1930s, with the 1936–37 squad inducted into the McGill University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2001. Crutchfield’s brother Nels also played in the same exhibition matches in Lake Placid, and his niece Linda represented Team Canada at the Olympics in Alpine skiing and the luge during the 1960s.
