Biography

Canadian ice hockey player Jack McGill began his career with the Ottawa New Edinburghs in the Ottawa City Hockey League in 1928. By 1930 McGill had joined the McGill Martlets, with him playing several seasons in the Montreal City Hockey League. Four years later he had turned professional, playing in 134 games in the National Hockey League for the Montréal Canadiens.

At the 1932 Lake Placid Olympics there were five exhibition matches played in addition to the standard ice hockey tournament. Jack McGill represented a team from McGill University, playing in the first and third matches against an all-Canadian team. The university won both matches, with McGill scoring the opening goal in the second fixture.
