Canadian ice hockey player Foster Wooley spent one season each with the St. Vital Saints (1926-1927) and the Winnipeg Columbus Club (1927-1928) of the Winnipeg Junior Hockey League prior to joining the Winnipeg Grain Exchange of the city’s Intermediate Hockey League in 1929. By 1931, however, he had switched teams to the Winnipeg Hockey Club and, with them, captured that year’s Allan Cup, given annually to the men’s amateur senior ice hockey champions in Canada. Although this win allowed them to represent their country at the 1932 Summer Olympics, Wooley was only an alternate for the squad and never saw any ice time. He did, however, participate in two ice hockey exhibition matches at the tournament, losing to McGill University as a representative of Team Canada, but emerging victorious as a member of the joint Canada/United States team that faced off against the Lake Placid Athletic Club. Following the Olympics he joined the Moncton Hawks for two senior-level exhibition games to conclude his career. Also an avid golfer, he was a member of the Norwood Community golf club and selected as a member of Manitoba’s four-man delegation to the 1938 Willingdon Cup, an annual, national amateur golf tournament.
