Charlie “Red” Berger was a Lake Placid native. He played for the Lake Placid AC in exhibition games at the 1932 Winter Olympics. He was a right winger who scored two goals in the win over Poland. He also started on the first line against Germany and a combined USA-Canada team. In the 1939 Lake Placid News Berger is quoted as saying that a Toronto group was toying with the idea of pitting the winners of the Stanley Cup (pro) and the Allen Cup (amateur) in a series at the season’s end.
