Biography

German tennis player Jürgen Faßbender competed professionally during the late 1960s and the 1970s. As a doubles specialist Faßbender achieved a career-best ranking of #22 in the world in March 1976, in addition to being a mainstay on the German Davis Cup team throughout the decade. In 1968 he competed in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles demonstration events at the Mexico City Olympics. In the mixed doubles he and Helga Niessen lost in the final of the tournament to the American pair of Julie Heldman and Herb Fitzgibbon. Faßbender won 16 doubles titles during his career, often paired with either Karl Meiler or Hans-Jürgen Pohmann.
