Biography

Christian Gille was a German sprint canoeist who placed fifth in the C2-500 metres at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, partnering Thomas Zereske. Four years later at Athens he partnered Tomasz Wylenzek and won the gold medal in the C2-1,000 metres. Over 500 metres, the pair finished fifth. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics they won the bronze medal over 500 meters and the silver medal over 1,000 metres.

Gille also won seven medals at European Championships (4/1/2), and 14 medals at the Worlds (5/3/6). He was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. Gille became a professional firefighter after his active career.
