Tom Mallory

Tom Mallory was a halfback on the West Team at the 1932 Olympic demonstration. Mallory played at Southern Cal, and then earned a masters’ degree in education from there. He later became a coach, starting in Oklahoma, and then at Pasadena Junior College (later City College) and while there coached Jackie Robinson. Robinson and Mallory’s 1939 team won the National Junior College Championship.

Mallory became the long-time football coach, physics teacher, and physical sciences department chair at Pasadena City College. During World War II he served in the US Navy. Mallory was also instructional chairman for Southern California officials, and supervised summer youth and adult baseball programs for Alhambra, California from 1938-60. During his teaching career he authored the textbook Laboratory Experiments in Physics.
