Biography

John Hoover was a right-handed pitcher who led the nation in strikeouts while a senior at Fresno State University. He was a starting pitcher for the USA at the 1984 Olympic demonstration baseball tournament. Hoover also won a bronze medal at the 1983 Pan American Games.

Hoover was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the first round in the 1984 Major League Baseball Draft. However, his career was shortened by injuries he had sustained in college. He played in the minors from 1984-90, but he did get up to the bigs in 1990, and pitched two games in relief with the Texas Rangers.
