Biography

Mickey Morandini was a second baseman who played for the USA at the 1988 Olympic demonstration baseball tournament. Morandini also won silver medals with USA teams at the 1987 Intercontinental Cup and the 1988 Baseball World Cup. He played in college at Indiana University, after which he was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the fifth round of the 1988 Major League Baseball Draft.

Morandini played in the bigs from 1990-2000, with the Phillies from 1990-97. He later played for the Chicago Cubs in 1998-99, and finished his career with a final season split between the Phillies and the Toronto Blue Jays. Morandini finished with a career batting average of .268. He played in the 1995 All-Star Game.

After retiring as a player, Morandini coached high school baseball at Valparaiso High School in Valparaiso, Indiana. In 2011 he became a minor league manager for the Phillies organization and in 2015, came back to the majors as a first base coach with the Phillies.
