Robin Ventura

Robin Ventura was a third baseman who played for the USA at the 1988 Olympic demonstration baseball tournament. Ventura also won international silver medals at the 1987 Intercontinental Cup and the 1988 Baseball World Cup. Ventura played in college at Oklahoma State University, after which he was chosen in the first round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Chicago White Sox.

Ventura played in the Major Leagues from 1989-2004. He played with the White Sox from 1989-98 and then had stints with the New York Mets (1999-2001), New York Yankees (2002-03), and Los Angeles Dodgers (2003-04). For his career Ventura batted .267 with 294 home runs and 1,182 RBIs. He played in the All-Star Game in 1992 and 2002, and won six Gold Glove Awards, in 1991-93, 1996 and 1998-99.

Ventura later became a manager, in charge of the White Sox from 2012-16. He resigned after three straight losing seasons. Ventura also did some color commentary on baseball games on television, particularly for ESPN.
