J. Cavendish Darrell attended Boys’ Latin School of Maryland and graduated in 1930, already a successful lacrosse player. Subsequently, he went to Johns Hopkins, where he earned a regular position on the team and played at the 1932 Olympics. His three sons, Butch, Skip, and Jack also became outstanding lacrosse players. He later played club lacrosse for 10 years with Mount Washington Club.
Darrell started in business as a salesman for an oil company and then was a public relations representative for the Maryland Petroleum Industries Committee. He then became executive vice-president of the Automobile Trade Association of Maryland, retiring in 1975 He was elected to the Baltimore County Council in the late 1950s and served two terms. He was later appointed to the Governor’s Commission to Study a Universal Commercial Code in 1961. Darrell was also a former treasurer of the Baltimore Safety Council.
