Sharon Jewell competed in taekwondo as a demonstration sport at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Jewell competed as a middleweight and finished in a tie for third. Jewell won the 1988 Pan American Championships, and was US Champion as a middleweight in 1983-86 and 1990-91. She also won three silver medals and four bronze medals at major international meets. Jewell’s father was Jerry Jewell, who was the first African-American member of the Arkansas State Senate.
