Jimmy Kim competed in taekwondo as a demonstration sport at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Kim won the heavyweight division. He also won the gold medal as a heavyweight at the 1987 Pan American Games and was US Champion as a heavyweight in 1985 and 1987-88. Kim graduated from U Cal Berkeley with a degree in physiology. He then attended the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic, and later practiced chiropractic in Southern California, but he also opened his own taekwondo center in Laguna Niguel, California. He died relatively young from an auto-immune disorder, dermatomyositis.
