Biography

Herb Perez competed in taekwondo as a demonstration sport at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Perez won the middleweight division. He won two medals at the Pan American Games, gold in 1987 and silver in 1991. He won bronze medals at the 1987 and 1991 World Championships. Perez was US Champion as a middleweight in 1986-87.

Perez graduated from William Paterson University, and earned a masters’ degree at the University of Lyon, and a law degree from Rutgers Law School. Perez served as chairman of the Foster City, California parks and recreation committee. He then became a city councilman in Foster City, and eventually served as mayor of the city. Perez also owned his own dojo, Gold Medal Martial Arts, in Foster City.
