Max Chen competed in the wushu demonstration held alongside the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He competed in sanshou, under 70 kg category and finished equal fifth. Chen practiced lei-tau sanshou, and starting competition in 1995. He began studying wushu at age four under Sifu Howard Lee, who taught him northern praying mantis and t’ai chi knife. Chen later switched to studying t’ai chi chuan, taught by his father, Grandmaster William C.C. Chen. Max Chen later became an instructor at his father’s martial arts school.
