German field hockey goalkeeper Julia Zwehl competed at the 2000 Sydney Olympics when the team finished seventh. Four years later at Athens the team won the gold medal and was named Team of The Year in Germany. Also, all team members were awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award.
Internationally, Zwehl won a gold medal at the 2002 European Championship, a silver medal in 1999, and a bronze in 2003. She won gold medals at the 1998 and 2002 European Indoors, and the bronze medal at the 1998 Worlds. She played 93 international matches (including 11 indoor), scoring just one goal (indoor) from 1998-2005.
Domestically, Zwehl played with HTC Hannover, HTC Uhlenhorst Hamburg, and Eintracht Braunschweig. She trained as a hotel manager and worked as a project manager for organizing event programs.
