Günther Lorenz was 18th at the 1936 Winter Olympics in the singles figure skating event. At both the 1938 European and World Championships he finished eighth. He never won a national title but in 1937 and 1938 he was runner-up behind Horst Faber, later the husband of Eva Prawitz. Lorenz later became a figure skating critic and consultant and manager of future figure skating stars such as Ernst Baier and Maxi Herber.
