Hubertus von Beyer

Hubertus von Beyer often used the pseudonym Ludo Gerwald. He was an Austrian poet, storyteller, playwright, film script editor, and co-founder of the German Academy for Poetry and Language Arts in Darmstadt, Germany. Von Beyer studied German literature, art history and later archeology at the University of Wien (Vienna). In Nazi Austria, he worked as an assistant director at the Burgtheater and as dramaturge at the Wien Film Company. He then served his military service in France.

In Wien, von Beyer often collaborated with Jewish artists, and thus fell into disgrace, but then changed his internal beliefs to Catholicism. After World War II von Beyer intiially settled in Darmstadt, then Wien, Switzerland, and Paris. From 1966-74 he lived in Roma, working as an art teacher and freelance author. He published the tragedy in five acts The Sacrifice of Themistocles in 1936 under his pseudonym Ludo Gerwald.
