Joseph Witterwulghe was a Belgian sculptor who was also active as a medal designer and painter. He studied at the Academy of Arts in Bruxelles until 1907 and at the same time was already working in the workshops of various well-known sculptors, but with a scholarship he then traveled to France and the Netherlands. He then became a long-time teacher at the Institute of Arts and Crafts in Bruxelles for many years. Witterwulghe produced statues, figurines, busts, and portraits, including the image of the Queen Elizabeth Monument in Liège. He also worked on the gable of the Royal Palace.
