As a teenager Raymond Grunberg began to publish caricature drawings in newspapers and adopted the pseudonym of Gid. In 1959 he adopted this name officially. Grunberg studied architecture at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He became well-known for his posters, many of them for the movies. In 1935 he began publishing books and was in close contact with a number of famous artists. Grunberg designed the layout of religious texts, illustrated books and edited anthologies. For his posters he was awarded a gold medal at the Paris International Exhibition in 1937 and received the National Poster Prize in 1976 and 1979.
