Pierre Segond-Weber was the son of the famous actress, Caroline-Eugénie Segond-Weber, who is buried at Père Lachaise in Paris, not far from the great tragic actor François-Joseph Talma. His father Léon Segond was also an actor and it is confirmed that he appeared in theaters in Algiers. Pierre lived mainly in French-Algeria, and produced several portraits of North African personalities, specializing in pastels. In 1933, Segond-Weber received a scholarship from the General Government of Algeria and was named an Officer of the Alawite Wissam. A talented draftsman, Segond-Weber also studied psychology. He was considered a leading artist in North Africa and exhibited in various salons, notably that of the Algerian Orientalists. His entry in the art competitions was a portrait of the “Arab Boxer Bob Youssef”. Born in 1903 as Ben Larbi Tifour Youcef, he was an Algerian middleweight boxer who was active from 1921-33, who won 40 of 118 professional fights, 21 of them by knockout.
