In 1937 he was discharged from his teaching position because of his Jewish wife. Beginning in 1945, he was a professor at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin.
Böhm was primarily a graphic designer, who made decorative books, book covers and bindings, weave designs, posters, wood carvings, and porcelain. He also designed the 15-pfennig value of the 1919 German stamp series on the occasion of the opening of the National Assembly in Weimar. In 1936, he won an art competition to design the certificate of honor for the Berlin Olympic Games.
