Biography

German poster artist Alfred Hierl won the silver medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games in the Art Competitions in the category of graphic arts painting, with his work International Avus-Race, which was one of four works he had submitted. During World War II he was an official war artist. Hierl was a graphic designer and mainly produced posters. He was best known for his advertising posters for motorsports and motorcycling.

Hierl became an official war artist for the German Reich during World War II. His often dark drawings also showed exhausted Luftwaffe (Air Force) pilots. He died in 1950 at the age of just 40 years.
