Johann Vierthaler was a German sculptor and glass artist. From 1894-95 he was a student at the München School of Applied Arts. From 1895-1900 Vierthaler studied sculpture at the München Academy. In 1922 he was appointed as a professor at the Municipal Trade School in München. The 40 cm tall bronze figure The Javelin Thrower was created in 1932. The figure does not hold a spear. A similar, slightly larger figure with spear was produced in 1937.
