Mitsutake Makita was born in the northern (then Russian) part of Sakhalin. He won the ski jumping event at the 1929 and 1931 All Japan Ski Championships, which earned him a place on the Japanese team for the 1932 Winter Games in Lake Placid. A fall in the second round prevented him from placing better than 28th.
