Dutch painter Otto Hanrath mainly produced paintings, watercolors, drawings, etchings and lithographs. His style was attributed to New Objectivity, as he painted still lifes, flowers, landscapes, portraits, and figures. For his writings he often used the pseudonym Johan Otto Maximnoff. He was an autodidact who was not formally trained. Hanrath was a member of Arti et Amicitiae and co-founder of the association De Brug, which aimed at gathering the younger generation of neoclassicist artists. The submitted portrait of Dutch cyclist and silver medalist Jaap Meijer was an oil painting on canvas from 1928 in the format 140 x 96 cm.
