Biography

Dutch architect Sjoerd Joustra studied in Switzerland and received his diploma in 1941 from the ETH Zürich. He then lived and worked in the Dutch city of Dordrecht. He was later appointed city architect of Hengelo, and then chief engineer of the city of Hilversum. There, Joustra built a basic school in Hilversum, among other works. The “Sports Complex Veldwijk” was a facility in Hengelo completed in 1948 and 1982 renamed Fanny-Blankers-Koen Stadium. In 2005 it was completely rebuilt as an athletics stadium. Here, the European Youth Championships took place two years later.
