Biography

A sports journalist, Freddy Mansveld was slated to compete in the four-man sled of Max Houben at the 1947 World Championships. He injured himself shortly before the competition and was replaced by Houben’s son, Claude - who had never before been in a bobsleigh. Without Mansveld, the crew won a silver medal. The following year, at the Olympics, Mansveld did compete, and the Belgian team again finished in second place.
