Biography

Margaret Fitzhugh Browne was an avid sailor and studied arts in Boston, and then became a well-known portrait painter. Her career included all aspects of the art world. In 1927, Browne painted the King of Spain, Alfonso XIII, for the New York Yacht Club, which was her best-known work.

Browne painted the Portrait of Bobby Jones in 1928 in oil on canvas sized 88 x 87 cm. It was exhibited in 1932 on loan from the city of Atlanta and is still in the High Museum there. Bobby Jones (1902-71) was an American golfer considered one of the best of all-time.
