Ralph Fabri

Hungarian-born Ralph Fabri was a painter, author, publisher and book critic for the magazines “American Artist”, “Pictures on Exhibition” and others. He first studied painting and architecture in Budapest, before immigrating to the USA in 1921, where he studied sculpture in New York. He became an American citizen in 1927 and later was known for his prints revealing the psychological impact of World War II. He also wrote multiple books in the how-to genre. From 1940, Fabri taught art at the City College in New York for more than 30 years. His subjects were life and still lifes, painting, drawing, graphics and art history. In addition, he also worked as an interior designer.

His 1936 entry, The Race from the same year, was a print showing a horse race in a stylized way. It is an etching in black on wove paper sized 22.9 x 17.8 mm (sheet 33.0 x 25.4 cm).
